Thrive retreats are designed to minister to North American women serving overseas. Three days before the event begins, ladies arrive on site from all over the United States, preparing to bless the special guests. Volunteers are trained to minister physically, emotionally, and spiritually to the ladies attending. Some give the gift of hairstyling, while others learn techniques of chair massage or how to give pedicures. Counseling and prayer are also an important part of the retreat for those who need a listening ear and support in these ways.
One new volunteer says, “Our training time on site has been very intentional and thorough. We are experiencing some of the same things the attendees will experience, so we will know how to guide them throughout the retreat. We have been trained with specific skills–both practical and relational–for what we will be doing. The volunteers have spent a lot of time together, so we can get to know one another and work well as a team.”
When the attendees arrive, we hope they feel warmly welcomed into a safe and affirming place by a unified team of ladies whose main goal is to bless them.
