Global Woman Highlight | Mimi McMillian

My name is Mimi and my husband of 15 years and I, along with our four children, have spent the past four years in South Africa working with orphans and vulnerable children in the local townships. In 2008, God gave us a dream to start a non-profit called “Not Forgotten” to be the voice for the voiceless and to love on those who have felt forgotten by God. From the start we went through a lot of heartache but God was evident in all of our trials, He did not forget us in the midst of our storm. We have had the privilege of partnering with the local believers and reaching the community through Bible studies for adults and children. God knitted us with another couple with the same vision so we joined ventures and we have seen God move! Our goal is to love on people through discipleship, community development, and education. We do home visits and pray for those who are sick. HIV/AIDS is very high here so there are many deaths every day. Through the preschool we have lost few kids through neglect and it has really opened our eyes to evaluate our work here. At times we have been very discouraged and wanted to leave but then God reminded us how there are people and kids that really need the love of Christ and hope in their lives, that we were called for time such as this.

My prayer needs are that I don’t ever lose the calling God has for us, the dream that He implanted in my husband and I to love on those who have felt forgotten. Also for more laborers with a same passion as us and with kids similar ages to our own kids.

We are so thankful for this journey and feel so privileged that He has called us to be His hands, feet, and heart! We never want to lose sight for what He has called us to do because we want to please Him.
