“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem…a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
John 4:21, 23
I grew up in a Christian home and was in church at least three times a week. Though God met me often outside the walls of church buildings, church was the place where all my significant spiritual milestones happened.
When I moved to the Arabian peninsula, we met in homes for church. I missed my admittedly cultural way of doing church. I missed beautiful church buildings with steeples that – to me – pointed people to God. I didn’t realize how deep my attachment had been to a building.
It has been a journey to allow God to redefine Church for me. I still love beautiful church buildings, but I’d rather be part of a vibrant community that is the Church than an earthly building engineered by man.
