Wake up. Put your face in the sunlight. God’s bright glory has risen for you. God rises on you, his sunrise glory breaks over you.

Isaiah 60:1-2 (The Message)

Kenya gets quite dusty in the two annual dry seasons. Literally everywhere there’s dust and everything takes on a drab brownish-gray color. When I took this photo I was walking along on a dirt road and each time I placed my foot down, a cloud of dust billowed out. But looking up and pointing my face toward the sunlight, there was beauty and brightness above, a blue sky and white clouds, green leaves and red blossoms. In the same way, as we look up at God, his glory breaks over us!

About the author

When God called me to Kenya, he revealed a simple assignment: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ He then connected me to a handful of single parents and their children, orphans, and refugees in urban slums and rural villages. I have come alongside these friends in long-lasting, one-on-one relationships since 2001. We share meals, we laugh and we cry together, we go on picnics. Sometimes it includes a financial hand-up and other times it includes balloons and a birthday cake. I am currently learning how to better do cross-cultural ministry through a balanced lifestyle that includes contemplative practices.
