For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen.
This tree sits along a highway in the United Arab Emirates surrounded only by thorny brambles and sandy dunes. During the season when I lived there, I often felt like that barren desert, but the day I took this photograph, God reminded me He takes delight in nourishing things in the desert. Still today, this is the image that comes to mind every time I wonder about God’s provision, every time I feel like I’m wandering in a desert wilderness. When I wonder if my circumstances will produce any fruit, God reminds me of this tree and whispers again, “I delight in nourishing things in the desert.”
