STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO

Jim and I were spending a few free hours walking around old Amman while in Jordan last year, near the Roman Theatre. It was the first sunny day after a severe winter storm. Just near the mosque, we smelled a spice shop. We always love to step into those, as the smell just draws you in!

We ended up buying some of the cardamom flavored coffee beans, the hibiscus flowers for herbal tea, the curry mixes, and the various thyme and sesame variations of Zatar, and as we talked to the Palestinian owner (whose English was excellent!) he told us he had been selling spices all his life, after their family fled Palestine in 1948. We enjoyed chatting with him, hearing about his relatives in the States, and we tried to care for him. I hope that we were a sweet smelling fragrance to him of Christ.
