STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO:
My friend invited me to join a group of women for an outing. Monthly, they read and talk books. One had a specific interest in the life and ways of the Jewish people. Why do they do…? Why do they wear…? Fascinating.
So we went to the Jewish community in Antwerp, around the diamond stock exchange.
They were stunned by the 600 something laws to live everyday life, bought sweet bread (baked for the Sabbath), were puzzled at business deals sealed by a mere hand shake, were intrigued at the women wearing pretty wigs, looked and looked again at the black dresses of all the girls, touched the little scrolls of Scripture on the doorposts… Why would people live like this in a modern world?
My friend and I smiled.
At lunch we could drop thoughts about the law of death versus the law of the Spirit who gives life.
