Today we pray for Encouragement, Healing, Hope

Attendees: Angie and Joy

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:18

Dear Heavenly Father,

No matter who we are or where we live and work, we are broken people. We carry in our hearts regret for things done or undone, said or not said. The women coming to the retreat are no different and their hearts need Your encouragement, healing, and hope.

If there are struggles with their devotional times, if they are wrestling with suffering and pain that seem unfair, if they’ve seen too much, lived too hard, cried into the night, please use this retreat to wrap them in Your love, care and comfort.

Please help them to lay their burdens, their hurts and disappointments at Your feet. Please remind those who’ve forgotten the blessings You’ve showered on them. Please cause thanksgiving to bubble in their spirits as they lift Your name in worshipful praise, listen to godly teaching and enjoy being loved and pampered by the volunteers. Help them meet You right where they are and experience all You have to give them during these special retreat days.

In Jesus name, Amen

Challenges for Prayer

Behind the facade of island paradise lies a darker reality. Freedom of expression and belief is strongly curtailed by powerful societal and regulatory forces. One of the highest divorce rates in the world, rising crime and gang activity, abuse of children and endemic drug use among teens (possibly up to 70%) indicate that all is not well. Beyond Islamic beliefs lies a widespread adherence to pre-Islamic occult practices called fanditha. Pray for the light of the gospel to shine into the lives of Maldivians. Pray against strongholds of pride, fear, duplicity and sensuality.

The desire to honour human rights and increase freedoms has been expressed by the current government, but freedom of religion is highly unpopular and violent opposition to it has been promised. Grassroots religion has shifted in a decidedly Islamist and Arabized direction, losing its indigenous Maldivian roots. Pray for the future of the people of the Maldives, torn between oppressive religion and empty freedoms.
