What Thrive Does…
When you bake a cake from scratch, you don’t just pour one ingredient in a bowl and bake it. You look at the recipe and consider all the multiple ingredients needed to craft your dessert. Each ingredient serves a different role in flavoring or forming the cake. Likewise, Thrive Ministry carefully chooses their volunteers and appoints their roles to effectively minister to the women we serve. We all come with different backgrounds and abilities but we share the same purpose: to provide encouragement to the Thrive Attendees through spiritual, physical, and emotional refreshment. Thank goodness we are all so different because we all bring something unique to the table. That’s how the body of Christ works! “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12
Preparation for ministering to the attendees is multifaceted which is why the volunteers come three days before they arrive. Prayer is central to the preparation and is at the core of Thrive. Training is focused on what to expect when the attendees arrive and how to best engage with them. Some will come fresh off of their assignments and it will be a bit of a culture shock stepping into this retreat setting. Others will come with heavy burdens and fragile hearts. Then there are some that are looking for refreshment and rest. It’s important that we are all sensitive to the wide variety of scenarios and that we are like-minded in how we interact and minister to them. All of this is done so that the attendees are reminded of their true identity, are spiritually refreshed, lavishly loved, feel safe, and are connected with other like-minded women.
