Not so towering or even swift,
but terribly powerful and strong.
Resolute and unrelenting, determined, malevolent,
pushing, crushing, seizing, snatching,
invincible, irresistible, overpowering, overwhelming.
Claiming whom it may,
grasping what it may,
leaving whom it may,
passing what it may…but touching all
Ripping, tearing, reaping, then receding
Foaming, swirling, twisting, whirling
Retreating to rumble savagely,
dissatisfied, in the sea.
Why? Why, oh God? Why so many?
Babies and small ones, mothers and old ones?
Be still…
Families ripped apart,
mothers with empty arms, little ones abandoned, all alone.
Be still…
How could this be – the pain, the emptiness, the shock and suffering.
Is not their sorrow enough already?
Be still…and know that I am God.
And, Lord, what about all those who need to know You?
So many lost, so many left behind.
…though the earth should change,
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride,
we will not fear…
I will be exalted.
I will be exalted.
I will be exalted among the nations.
I will be exalted in the earth.
Tsunami…
Before, during and after –
I am God – do not fear.
I will be exalted.
I am God.
